Learn to read independently and care for others

At this stage, children have mastered basic reading skills and recognized. Some may read simple words using blending skills after receiving proper training. They also start reading, role playing or creating stories on their own. As they have understood the basic writing rules, they like to pretend writing while playing games, and they have a better understanding of mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, time, location and direction.

Parents may choose storybooks about social and global issues based on the children's reading experience. Topics can be environmental protection or supporting the disadvantaged. They may encourage the children to read on their own and provide guidance when necessary. Then they may discuss the stories to inspire the young ones to reflect on the key learnings and learn to care about others.
